Vocalize does not answer an incoming call when I say my "Telephone" magic keyword?
When there is an incoming call you will need to say the "Telephone" magic keyword clearly between rings.  If it doesn't catch you the first time, simply repeat the keyword between the next two rings.  Understandably, the system has difficulty distinguishing between your voice issuing the command if the sound of the telephone ringing is drowning out your voice at the same time.  Only select ring tones that allow a slight pause between rings for you to say your "Telephone" magic keyword.

Vocalize periodically "Beeps" or says "Say a Command" even when the "Telephone" keyword was not necessarily said.
The "beep" or "say command" prompt is the voice control software starting up in either the Vocalize system or your cell phone.  The Vocalize system misunderstood, thinking it heard you say your "Telephone" magic keyword possibly confused among regular conversation.  This is referred to as a "false positive".  To avoid false positives be sure magic keywords are recorded in a very quiet environment.  Re-record your "Telephone" magic keyword under the "Record Keywords" setup menu.  Pause slightly after the beep prompt (maybe .5 seconds) before saying the keyword.  Say the keyword in a definitive clear/natural voice.  Do not whisper the command but there is no need to yell it either.  Listen closely when Vocalize repeats the keyword back.  It should sound clear without being cut off at the end.  If you continue to get false positives after rerecording, try a different magic keyword such as "abracadabra".

How do I Rerecord the Vocalize system's "Telephone" & "Hang up" Magic Keywords?
1. Press in a round knob (Vocalize will say "Language English")
2. Turn knob left 1 click (Vocalize will say "Record Keywords")
3. Press in knob to select (Vocalize will say "Home Not Recorded")
4. Turn knob left 2 clicks (Vocalize will say "Telephone Recorded")
5. Press in knob to select (Vocalize will say "Say Telephone After the Beep") After the beep, say "Telephone" clearly into microphone from about 6"-12" away and repeat after 2nd beep as
instructed until Vocalize says "Recording Completed")
6. Repeat from step 1 for "Hang up" Magic Word but in step 4 turn left 1 click. When prompted to say "Hang up" Broadened Horizons suggests saying "End Call" instead for better results & to avoid confusion for parties on the other end of the line.

Vocalize does not respond or nothing happens when I say my "Telephone" magic keyword?
Chances are Vocalize is unable to communicate with your cell phone via Bluetooth.  Follow the steps below to diagnose and resolve the problem.
1)   Press in on the round knob on the Control & Programming button interface.  Vocalize will say "Language English".
If Vocalize says something unintelligible in another language, press in the round knob a second time to select the language settings menu and turn the knob until you hear "English" then press in the round knob again to select.  Vocalize will say "The Selected Language Is English".  Repeat step #1.
If Vocalize does not respond or say anything and the red and green stripes on the buttons on either side of the round knob:
ARE illuminated, then Vocalize seems to be locked up.  Try turning Vocalize off for about 10 seconds using the black teardrop shaped on/off power switch if available.  If Vocalize still does not work within 30 seconds after turning it back on, try disconnecting the power wire entirely for about 10 seconds, then reconnect.
ARE NOT illuminated, be sure the black teardrop shaped on/off pushbutton power switch is on or refer to the Vocalize user manual on troubleshooting hardware connectivity issues.
2)  Turn the round knob clockwise one "notch" or "detent".  Vocalize will say "Volume".  Turn clockwiseone more notch and Vocalize should say "Add Voicetags".  Continue turning clockwise for remaining setup menu choices: "Magic Words Activated" and "Record Keywords" until Vocalize says "Language English" once again.
If Vocalize only repeats the two setup menu choices "Language English" and "Volume" this signifiesVocalize is unable communicate with your cell phone via Bluetooth.  See step #3: Resolving Bluetooth Connectivity Problems below.
If Vocalize says "Magic Words Deactivated", press in the round control knob to select this setup menu and record your "Telephone" and "Hang Up" magic keywords.
If Vocalize named all 5 setup menu choices described above and said "Magic Words Activated", but does not respond to your "Telephone" magic keyword, try pressing the green control button.  (Same function as saying your "Telephone" magic keyword).  The green button should begin flashing slowly and you should hear the beep prompting for a calling voice command.  Vocalize is functioning properly.  Re-record your "Telephone" magic keywordunder the "Record Keywords" setup menu.

Resolving Bluetooth Connectivity Problems
Refer to your cell phone's user manual on troubleshooting Bluetooth connectivity problems.  The following steps are general guidelines:
Make sure the Bluetooth service is enabled and active on your phone.  On many Windows Mobile Smartphones this can be found under Settings> Connections> Bluetooth.
Soft Reboot your phone.  Most phones you can hold the power button to completely turn off the phone (not just the screen), and then turn it back on to reboot.  Windows Mobile Smartphones usually have a small recessed reset button which can be activated by pressing it for about one second using a paper clip.  Refer to the user manual for your phone to find or identify the reset button.  if nothing else, you can always remove the battery from your phone for a few seconds and then reinsert it.quite likely, Vocalize will reconnect (and beep) with your phone once it reboots if you have not changed any of the Bluetooth pairing settings.
Repeat the Bluetooth pairing process on your phone with Vocalize.  Be sure to delete any former or previous Vocalize Bluetooth devicesfrom the list of paired devices before initiating a new pairing connection.  Refer to your phone's user manual on pairing a Bluetooth device.  Vocalize functions just like a Bluetooth headset.  Use 1234 as your Bluetooth pairing pin code when prompted.
If all above fails, use another Bluetooth cell phone or a Bluetooth enabled computer to search for available Bluetooth devices and make sure it can "see" your cell phone over the Bluetooth service.

The Advanced Voice Control Software doesn't seem to recognize any commands?
Some phones require a reset before the software will operate.

The Advanced Voice Control Software says "Try again" or microphone icon disappears
• Pause longer before speaking.
• Move microphone or your device further away.
• Speak in a normal tone, avoid pausing between words.
• Move to a less noisy environment.
• Make sure you didn't disable the command you are trying to use in settings.
• Use the Notes application to record your voice and playback at full volume.  If playback sound volume is very soft, phone may be optimized for close talk use and you will need to hold it closer.

The Advanced Voice Control Software beep does not play to signify it's listening for a voice command?
Start the application by tapping on it or selecting it from within the Programs list.  If the microphone icon appears, but the beep is still not heard, try the following:
• Tap the speaker icon at the top of the phone screen. Verify that the volume is loud enough and not muted.
• Tap > Settings > Sounds & Notifications. Verify that sounds are enabled for Programs.

The Advanced Voice Control Software doesn't work when the password screen is displayed?
The password screen blocks the software from starting to avoid other people from placing phone calls while your device is locked. To enable, uncheck the 'Password Protected' option. Note some organizations prevent this override from working due to increased corporate security measures.

When I start the Advanced Voice Control Software by pressing the hardware button directly on the phone handset, the microphone icon does not seem to display?
Start the application by tapping on it or selecting it from within the Programs list.  If it starts normally, try the following:
• Make sure the button you're pressing is properly assigned to the application.
• If you hear a thunk sound, make sure you are not holding the button too long, engaging the "press and hold to cancel" feature.
• Make sure Windows Media™ is not using the button. Tap Windows Media > Tools >Settings > Buttons.  If any voice control button is listed in Button Mapping, tap and hold it and select Un-map this button.

When the Advanced Voice Control Software confirms a number to call, dial, etc. or tries to announce something, the software shuts down and I'm not able to respond yes or no.
This is due to an incompatibility added to some but not all Windows Mobile 6.0 phones.  WindowsMobile 6.0 was released after the Advanced Voice Control Software so until an update is available you can either try installing this patch or disable call confirmations and announcements under Voice Command Setup options for all categories, in which case it will just dial the name you say without confirming it. (If the patch doesn't work you can reverse back to original configuration.  Just follow the directions.)  This problem is known to exist on the HTC Touch, and a few other Windows Mobile 6.0 phones.

Calling Tips for 1st Time Users of Speaker Independent Voice Control
(i.e. Advanced Voice Control for Windows Mobile and VoiceSignal VSuite)
Do not talk over the beep prompt: the software does not begin listening to your voice until after the beep is finished and the mic listening indicator on the screen begins flashing.
Do not forget to say the keyword "Call" Example: you need to say "Call John Smith."

The system is expecting natural, but clear speech. Speaking very loudly, slowly or robotically will generally not improve accuracy, and in fact, will likely degrade accuracy. Speak commands and names as though you were speaking to a person on a cell phone.
Do not yell. In noisy environments you will have to increase your speaking volume, just as you would if you were speaking to another person, however very loud speech, or yelling, can degrade accuracy.
You will experience the best results when the names in your contact lists are long and unique. A list of short, rhyming names (john, Don, Ron) can result in confusions. For contact entries like this, try adding a last name to make it more unique sounding.
Avoid entering contact names with abbreviated spellings or acronyms. Voice Dial may not create the expected pronunciations for these types of entries.
Voice Dial recognizes names in your contact list as they appear in your handset, First Name followed by Last Name. For example, if you have a contact that is displayed as Smith, John, VoiceSignal will recognize John Smith. Make sure you say "Call 'First name', 'Last name' ".
If the name in Outlook appear as Last Name, First Name (Company). Check the Outlook "File As" field.
If the Outlook contacts are filed as Last Name, First Name (Company) or Company (Last, First), software will recognize the company as part of the name entry.
For example, if you have a contact that is displayed as "XYZ Corporation (Smith, John)", software will recognize the contact as "John XYZ Corporation Smith". To dial-out, you will have to say "call John XYZ Corporation Smith". Also, special characters such as parenthesis will make it difficult for recognition to take place and will use up the resources particularly if you have a large number of contacts stored in that format.
