The Comfort Coat is two quilted layers of the densest, softest Polartec Wind Resistant and Water Repellent Microfiber Fleece keeping you warm from nose to ankle without restricting movement or getting caught in wheelchair wheels. Perfect for wheelchair users with reduced circulation in their legs. Tuck hands underneath in lap to keep warm or bring out to even drive with hand controls unrestricted. Warm enough for Minnesota's blustery winters, yet breathes well enough it is worn indoors for hours without overheating when getting a chill. Sleeveless arm flaps with velcro closures under the wrist allow even C5 quadriplegics with restricted arm movement and limited strength to flip it on over their head or take it off INDEPENDENTLY!
4 times more wind resistant than traditional fleece and water repellent, yet highly breathable!
Warmth without weight!

The Comfort Coat reaches down to about your shoulder blades or wraps around wheelchair backrest. No need to lean forward and tuck it behind your back uncomfortably changing your position. The wheelchair backrest already keeps your back protected and warm. This ease of taking it on and off without needing to change position or physically move makes it faster to get ready to go and also makes it comfortable to even ask a stranger if necessary, such as a waitress at a restaurant, to help pull it off.
Stain, water, and wind resistant Polartec Microfiber Fleeces are expensive but top quality, very durable, and long-lasting. Mark Felling, Broadened Horizons President and the Comfort Coat's designer has been using the prototype from early fall to late spring through Minnesota's blustery winters since 2005 and it still looks like new. The prototype was originally sewn by Mark's mother, a skilled seamstress - Thanks Mom! Quality is in the details - designed by the disabled for the disabled with the detailed, loving touch only a mother can add!

Technical: How does it work?
Performance fabrics that are both wind resistant and highly breathable for year-round use. NEW "super fleece" spends an incredibly wide range of conditions performing as both outerwear and installation. Great from outdoor football games in the fall to heavy wintertime snowfalls, to a springtime walk through the park.
Proprietary yarns and a very tight, dense construction greatly reduce the effects of windchill, the Achilles' heel of traditional fleece. With effectiveness proven both in the lab and the field, the Comfort Coat fleeces block the wind 4x more than traditional fleece (doubled) backed by Thinsulate to maintain warmth despite reduced circulation in unused legs. However these high-tech fabrics also maintain 85% of the breathability of traditional fleece to keep you from overheating.
The durable water repellent outer surface sheds rain and snow. Velour pebbled inner surfaceefficiently traps air and provides a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Fabric surfaces are finished for maximum durability and pill-free performance. The Comfort Coat retains its insulating ability and original appearance after repeated use and laundering. Although Polartec was the original fleece fabric manufacturer, there are many fleece fabrics on the market. Unfortunately many of these inferior fleeces pill, fade and do not hold up very well to use and washings.
